We wanted to know more precisely : Our EDM specialist designed a complex component, cylindrical in shape, with a sliding inner segment. Our goal : It should have zero play! However, this meant that it had to be assembled from two individual parts.
Off we went sintering, cylindrical grinding, and surface grinding the blanks, then spent many hours EDM machining and finally lapping. The result: the two parts fit together with a tolerance of only 3 microns (0.003 mm)! The inner segment can be gently pushed back and forth without the slightest bit of play. Pure playfullness? Certainly not, this is tungsten carbide at the highest level of precision.
