Die sinking

What is die sinking?

Die-sinking EDM allows complex internal geometries to be produced with precision and cost-effectiveness. Conventional machining often reaches its limits, particularly when it comes to blind holes with special shapes, such as hexagonal or star-shaped contours.

Typical applications include mold inserts, cavities, and stamping and forming tools.

How does die-sinking EDM work?

The process requires an electrically conductive workpiece. It operates non-contact via spark discharge, meaning no mechanical cutting forces act on the workpiece. The electrode precisely replicates the desired geometry. For the most demanding applications, we also manufacture the electrodes ourselves. Die-sinking EDM can also be used to cut precision threads in carbide. Since no stresses are generated in the component, dimensional accuracy and material properties are preserved. In addition, the process enables a very high surface finish.

What are the benefits of die-sinking EDM?

Customers benefit from consistent quality and consistently high precision.

Wire cutting

What is wire EDM?

Wire EDM is particularly well-suited for very hard or brittle materials that are difficult to machine using conventional methods. The process is used when extremely high precision requirements in the micrometer range are necessary, as well as for very delicate and complex geometries.

Typical workpieces include punching and cutting tools.

How does wire EDM work?

In wire EDM, material removal occurs via electrical spark discharge. A prerequisite is the electrical conductivity of the workpiece. A fine wire with a diameter of approximately 0.1 to 0.3 mm serves as the “tool” moving through the workpiece in a controlled, non-contact manner. Since no mechanical cutting forces are applied, no deformations or stresses occur in the component.

What are the benefits of wire EDM?

This technology offers customers significant advantages: high repeatability and surface finish, consistent quality, and the ability to precisely machine even the hardest materials. Our combined expertise in wire EDM and hard metall machining is particularly valuable in this regard.
