The electrode (tool) is lowered onto or into the workpiece. The spark in the tiny gap ensures that the material is removed. Often used for drilling or thread cutting.
Also known as spark erosion; the sparks between the wire and the workpiece remove the material. Extremely narrow cutting widths are possible. The machined contours are sharp-edged, dimensionally very accurate and true to shape.
